Ok this one is a wee bit different because yesterday I didn’t eat anything and I had zero energy for exercising. Why you might ask? I did a 1 day juice cleanse. Why? As I am re-learning the role that food plays in my life there are also some benefits to giving your digestive tract a break and spending a full day feeding your body nothing by vitamins and minerals. Curious how the day went?
I was doing good threw the first 2 juices. It wasn’t until about 11am that the hunger pangs started to set in, so I drank some water and did a few things around my house to keep my occupied. By 1pm it was nap time. When I woke up from my nap the dull headache had set in. Doing little things to keep busy was zapping what little energy I did have so I laid on the couch for a bit. All of this is perfectly normal. Knowing that I was meeting the bestie for Magic Mike XXL (which let’s face it, juice fast or not I am not missing) I jumped into the shower in hopes of feeling a little more human. Walking down to the skytrain I was starting to feel a little bit better. Most of the symptoms had subsided, besides the dull headache, and by this time I was on juice 5 of 6.
Here is what I noticed throughout the day. I was lethargic and tired. It was difficult to focus and concentrate. It took me almost 2 hours to write my post yesterday, when normally I am done in 20-25 minutes. Carrying on a conversation proved a challenge, just ask my lovely landlord. By the time I was heading home from the movie I was feeling…off. Again, all of this perfectly normal. My tongue is coated in white pastiness and this morning I have about 6 new pimples; that is simply my body pushing out the toxins. Personally, I know now that I can go a day without eating food. I battle hunger pangs for a few hours, but they passed. I did spend a bit of time thinking about yummy foods, but you soon realize that that is not productive so you nap. The big win for me was knowing/learning that food doesn’t control me, I control me.
The 1 day juice cleanse that I did was called The Chief by The Juice Box, a local Vancouver company. I purchased it threw my weekly spud.ca order because The Juice Box doesn’t deliver to my area. As someone that has been juicing for some time I was prepared for the taste of some of the juices and others I will be perfectly content to never drink again. My favorites were the Orange Cucumber, Carrot Orange Ginger and Heartbeet. The two green juices were, by far, the worst, most because they contain parsley and I have a serious hate on for parsley, but I drank them. All of their juices are cold pressed and unpasteurized. I had them delivered Thursday and they had an expiration date of today. Overall, I am happy I did the cleanse and am pleased with the outcome. Will I do a 3 day cleanse? Perhaps, but not right now.
Because it’s honesty and intuition is incredibly powerful.
Mantra: “My body is incredibly honest and intuitive, and for that reason, it deserves love and respect.”
Action step: Take 4 minutes to write down experiences that you’ve had where you body has shown you honesty or intuitiveness. Take the last minute to feel extreme gratitude towards your body for the power it possesses.
My doctor will have a good chuckle at this one. Over the last few years I have become very in-tune with my body and I know when something is off. A couple times it was enough that I went to the Dr. and the first time he told me I was being silly until my blood work came back that I had dangerously low iron. Since then, if I walk into his office and say “Something is off” he asks me a series of questions, but listens this time. I just know. As Molly mentions in her post for the day, women are powerful intuitive creatures. You hear stories all the time of mothers knowing something is wrong with her child or like me just a “gut feeling” that something is off. So peeps, listen to your body it will tell you everything you need to know. It gives you loud screaming signs and quite signs. Don’t ignore them!
